The Nova Scotia Department of Energy has filed its closing submission with the Energy Board urging it to reject Nova Scotia Power’s proposed rate hikes. The utility has proposed increasing residential electricity rate by nine per cent over the next two years. Premier Tim Houston called the proposed increase “tone-deaf,” and the company should focus on “improving performance and earning the public’s trust after an incredibly stressful and damaging cyber breach.” The Energy Board is now reviewing Nova Scotia Power’s proposal, and a decision is expected in the coming weeks.
