The province is spending $8 million on new equipment to repair potholes and maintain roads. The new equipment includes a new way of handling asphalt that will help pothole repairs last longer by using hot boxes and new front-end loaders with brush cutters, which will better reach under guardrails and across shoulders. Other equipment includes skid steers with asphalt planers, sweepers and compactor attachments for patching roads. The province says each area will have a dedicated crew assigned to operate the pothole and cutting equipment. Summer students will collect trash along highways.
