Nova Scotia’s Fisheries Minister spoke to his federal counterpart about illegal fishing in the province. Kent Smith says eastern fisheries ministers met with federal Fisheries Minister Joanne Thompson last week. He says the seafood industry has suffered from illegal fishing, the closure of the 2024 elver fishery, and decisions about conservation management. On top of that, East Coast fisheries are under threat from tariffs imposed by China and threatened by the U.S.
