Nova Scotia Health’s solid tumour clinical trials team at the Atlantic Clinical Cancer Research Unit has become the first site in the world to launch—and the first to enroll a patient in—a major international clinical trial led by AstraZeneca. The study is evaluating a potential new treatment for biliary tract cancer, a rare and very aggressive cancer with limited options for patients. Because this disease is so uncommon, it’s often challenging to start trials quickly or find eligible participants, which makes Nova Scotia’s early activation especially meaningful.
