After 10,000 suggestions of names for Nova Scotia’s four new wildfire-fighting helicopters, the province has revealed the fleet’s new names. The winners are:
- Spirit of the Osprey
- Spirit of the Eagle
- Spirit of the Hawk
- Spirit of the Falcon
The four Airbus H125s will fight wildfires, help in search and rescue efforts and support the work of other departments by doing aerial surveillance. The helicopters were funded by a joint provincial-federal agreement on wildfire equipment. Each level of government contributed $12.6 million.
