The Mahone Bay coastline will be the beneficiary of almost $2 million to protect it. The federal government is chipping $928,000, Coastal Action will spend $922,100, and the Town of Mahone Bay will spend $16,950. Coastal Action is heading up the project, which is aimed at reducing flooding and disrupting coastal erosion. The project includes a living shoreline, a nearshore breakwater, a tidal wetland and a raised dyke along 100 metres of Edgewater Street. Indigenous led projects will make up 10 per cent of the project, and the federal money will only be granted if all environmental assessment obligations are met and proper consultation with Indigenous groups is done.
